Teens Love Drinking Hand Sanitizer Says Media
0Los Angeles-area hospitals are reporting a terrifying new trend among teens: using hand sanitizer to get hammered.
According to the LA Times, six teenagers have been sent to the hospital after drinking toxic quantities of hand sanitizer:
The liquid hand sanitizer is 62% ethyl alcohol and makes a 120-proof liquid. A few drinks can cause a person’s speech to slur and stomach to burn, and make people so drunk that they have to be monitored in the emergency room.
Cyrus Rangan (a scientist of some sorts), agrees:
“All it takes is just a few swallows and you have a drunk teenager.”
After a bit of research however, there was no documented cases of teens ending up in the emergency room after purposely drinking hand sanitizer prior to this year. Despite the lack of evidence that this is a severe threat to our teens, the media still urges parents to treat “hand sanitizer like any other medicine or alcohol in the house.” AKA, lock it up.
I’ll chalk this one up to the media overreacting, even if it’s completely possible.
