5 Useless Human Body Parts
0The human body was designed with a few extra parts that we don’t necessarily need. Most of these body parts are what Charles Darwin considered evidence for human evolution. Over the course of time, certain vestigial organs have become prominent. Here are some of the most useless human body parts:
The Tailbone:
Even though you don’t, some of your ancestors probably had tails. Most mammals find their tails useful for balance, but when man learned to walk, the tail became useless and evolution let it turn into our coccyx.
The Appendix:
What used to be a crucial part of the human body has now become useless as it no longer aids in human digestion. 1 in 20 people have had theirs removed and none of them seems to miss it.
Wisdom Teeth:
While they used to be useful, wisdom teeth have become little more than a pain for many people due to the evolution of the human jaw. Over the years, the human jaw has become smaller and wisdom teeth have nowhere to grow. It’s also possible that human hygiene could be at fault. Before tooth brushing, a normal adult would have lost a lot more teeth than now, leaving room for incoming wisdom teeth.
Male Nipples:
Men have nipples because early on in the womb, the gender of a fetus is undecided. Eventually, testosterone causes a fetus to become either male or female, while still keeping nipples. Even though they are useless, men have been known to lactate, and they can still get breast cancer.
Body Hair:
It may surprise you, but goose bumps aren’t just a sign that you are getting cold. In early stages of our evolution, fear and confrontation caused certain muscle fibers to activate, forcing hairs to stand up and make humans appear larger and more threatening.
