Handwriting: A Lost Art Form Killed By Technology
0In this day and age of emails, tweets, instant messages and phone calls – handwritten notes have virtually .. disappeared.
While we still may occasionally write notes down for ourselves, it’s becoming more and more rare that we pull out the pen and paper.
Philip Hensher from The Guardian wrote a thought-provoking article about the decline of handwriting. In it he said:
“Handwriting is what registers our individuality, and the mark which our culture has made on us. It has been seen as the unknowing key to our souls and our innermost nature. It has been regarded as a sign of our health as a society, of our intelligence, and as an object of simplicity, grace, fantasy and beauty in its own right. Yet at some point, the ordinary pleasures and dignity of handwriting are going to be replaced permanently.”
In the article, he makes some strong points about how the originality of handwritten notes have been forgotten in the 21st century.
I for one still have a Moleskine notebook that I love to doodle and write notes on. There’s something to be said for the emotion and clarity writing something on paper brings.
What about you guys? Do you handwrite anything anymore?
