Incest prevention?

There’s an app for that.

It seems like there is an app for everything these days — but Iceland has taken it to a whole new level with the introduction of an incest prevention app” created by a group of students at the University of Iceland.

“The idea for the incest-prevention feature comes from our culture,” he said. “Accidentally sleeping with a relative has been a running joke in Icelandic culture for a while.”

This new app contains a large online genealogical database about the inhabitants of Iceland. Users can bump their phones together to find out whether or not they are related.

While this isn’t a problem in Canada or the United States, due to the country’s small size (320,000 residents), a large amount of Icelanders are related.

This market has resulted in 4,000 people have downloaded the app from the Google Play Store already.

It’s been 4 years since fan-favorite movie District 9 hit box offices. Fans have been begging for hints of a sequel since then and today, they got their wish.

The new trailer hit YouTube yesterday and outlines the plot of the new movie:

Set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.

Unfortunately for fans, prawns weren’t highlighted in the trailer and the producers have yet to confirm if they will be included in the movie at all. I love Matt Damon, but no prawns is a deal-breaker.

The past few months have been some alarming incidents involving tourists being murdered, gang-raped and robbed in foreign questions. Which begs the question: which countries should foreign travellers avoid (or at least be extra careful in)?

While there is no specific statistics on which countries are dangerous for tourists, the CBC came up with this map based on warnings from Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs:

click for high-res image

Brazil, the home of the 2016 Olympic Games, is labeled as a country to “exercise extreme caution” when visiting from abroad.

The U.S. State Department also puts out travel warnings when there is a long-term condition that poses major risks to travellers. Surprisingly, popular tourist stops like Israel are labelled with warnings – when Brazil isn’t even on the list.

Despite all the discrepancies on Canada and U.S. lists, one thing is for certain: bad things can happen to tourists in all travel destinations.

I hate to break this news, but if you ate a Cadbury Creme Egg this Easter, you may have ingested excretion from the anus of a beaver.

According to the Huffington Post, Cadbury Creme Eggs contain a sweeter called castoreum (often referred to as natural flavouring), which may be derived from the anal gland of beavers. I say “may” because other sources claim that castoreum is actually from beaver urine, and not their anal glands. Phew, right?

Either way, if you had been thinking about buying some discount Creme Eggs from the grocery store, you may want to reconsider.

But then again, if eating Creme Eggs is wrong, I’m not so sure I want to be right.
